Sightings received in April 2017

This month we have received several sightings made during February, March and April. We’ve put them all together in the same map, as most of them were done along a sailing trip between Cabo Verde and Cape Town.

The species reported were:

Dolphins. Several groups even it was not possible to identify the species.

Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) reported in the Canaries.

Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus). Very curious ones! They were spy-hopping 🙂

Killer whale (Orcinus orca). A mother with a calve!

Atlantic spotted dolphin (Stenella frontallis).

Some of them were done during sailtrips around the Macaronesia, sailing between Azores, Madeira, the Canaries, Cape Verde and Senegal. Some others come directly from the coast of Lanzarote (Canary Islands).

Without any doubt, November is a very interesting month for transatlantic sailors!
